Defendant's Text Deletion Linked to Fentanyl Death at Bronx Day Care

Two individuals, Grei Mendez and Carlisto Acevedo Brito, who were already in custody for the death of a 1-year-old at a Bronx day care, are now facing federal charges related to narcotics possession and distribution resulting in death. The charges stem from the overdose of four children, one of whom died, after being exposed to fentanyl at the day care. Mendez's husband is still being sought for questioning after being caught on video fleeing the scene. Prosecutors allege that the defendants attempted to cover up the overdoses and that Mendez deleted 20,000 text messages from her phone before her arrest. A kilogram of fentanyl was found stored on children's playmats at the day care.
