Abducted Illinois girl found safe in North Carolina after 6 years

Kayla Unbehaun, a girl who was abducted by her noncustodial mother in 2017, was found safe in North Carolina after an employee at Plato's Closet recognized her from media coverage and alerted police. Her mother, Heather Unbehaun, was arrested and faces extradition to Illinois where she will be charged with at least one count of child abduction. Kayla, now 15, is in the custody of the North Carolina Department of Social Services. The case was featured on an episode of Netflix's "Unsolved Mysteries" dedicated to parental abductions.
