Fatal Mountain Lion Attack Claims One Life and Injures Another in Northern California

A mountain lion attacked and killed a 21-year-old man and injured his 18-year-old brother while they were hunting for shed antlers in a remote area of Northern California's foothills. The younger brother reported the attack to authorities, who found him with traumatic injuries to his face. Deputies located the older brother with the mountain lion crouching over him, and after firing their service weapons to scare off the animal, the older brother was found deceased. The mountain lion was later located and euthanized by wildlife officers. This marks one of nearly two dozen reported mountain lion attacks on humans since the mid-80s, with the last fatal encounter occurring in 2004.
