The monthslong investigation, dubbed "Operation Skyhawk," uncovered a multi-state enterprise involving civilians, inmates, and staff at Georgia Department of Corrections facilities, resulting in over 1,000 criminal charges. Eight department employees were among those arrested and immediately fired. The scheme involved the use of drones to smuggle drugs, weapons, and cell phones into prison facilities across Georgia, with over $7 million worth of evidence recovered.
