"Bridge Collapse at Maine Lighthouse Event Injures 11"

Eleven people were injured when a platform leading to the Doubling Point Lighthouse in Maine collapsed during the state's annual event to promote tourism to lighthouses. Visitors fell into rocks and mudflats on the river's shoreline, with five taken to hospitals and six treated at the scene. The collapse occurred on Maine Open Lighthouse Day, and the lighthouse is now closed to visitors until further notice. The Doubling Point Lighthouse is an active lighthouse used by the Coast Guard and was moved to its current location in 1899. The Friends of Doubling Point Light, which manages the lighthouse, have not yet determined a timeframe for repairs.
