"Android 14 brings major Google Photos upgrade and early access for select phones"

Google has introduced Ultra HDR, a photo quality upgrade for Android devices that allows all compatible apps to display still images with a wider range of brightness and color. The technology will be baked into Android 14 with early support from Google Photos. Ultra HDR takes a jpeg file and adds an extra layer of information called a 'gain map' that compatible devices can use to upgrade the standard image into an HDR photo. Adobe has made demo apps available for Windows and macOS that allow users to view a selection of HDR images.
