Trans woman behind NYC subway voice to continue using iconic tones for work

Bernie Wagenblast, the voice of the New York City subway, has come out as a transgender woman. Although she has been working on developing her feminine voice, she still uses her "guy voice" professionally. Wagenblast has been in the media industry since her early 20s and started her career as a radio personality. She has been slowly transitioning, starting with hormone therapy and androgynous clothing, and eventually legally changing her name to Bernadette. The MTA has shown support for Wagenblast on social media, and she plans to explore using her feminine voice in her work on Transportation Radio and Cranford Radio.
