"Presidential Aspirant Ahmed Eltantawy Falls Victim to Predator Spyware Attack"

Ahmed Eltantawy, a former Egyptian MP and presidential candidate, was targeted with Cytrox's Predator spyware after publicly announcing his intentions to run for president in the 2024 Egyptian elections. The spyware was delivered via network injection from a device located within Egypt, leading to high confidence attribution to the Egyptian government. Apple has released updates to patch the vulnerabilities used in the iOS exploit chain. The Citizen Lab, in collaboration with Google's Threat Analysis Group, obtained an iPhone zero-day exploit chain and identified similarities between the spyware used in this attack and a previous sample of Cytrox's Predator spyware. The investigation is ongoing, and a more detailed technical report is expected to be published in the future.
