A Tesla Model S Plaid racecar, modified by Unplugged Performance, set a new record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with a sub-10 minute run time of 9:54.901. The vehicle, named "Dark Helmet," retained its factory powertrain and drivetrain but featured upgrades such as aero modifications, high-performance parts, and lightweight race wheels. The modifications allowed the Model S Plaid to fully utilize its power during the race. Racecar driver Randy Pobst praised the modifications and the vehicle's tires for their role in the achievement. Unplugged Performance CEO Ben Schaffer highlighted the success as a testament to the Model S Plaid's capabilities as a family car.
