The author had the opportunity to drive the 2023 BMW M3, but had to cut the experience short due to knee pain caused by operating the manual transmission. The base M3 is only available with a six-speed manual, while the Competition model comes with an eight-speed automatic. Despite losing some power by choosing the manual, the author appreciated the existence of a stick-shift in a world where they are becoming increasingly rare. However, due to knee issues, the author has accepted that their days of driving manual transmissions are over.
