Christian Lundgaard of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing captured his first-ever NTT P1 Award for the GMR Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, becoming the fourth different pole winner of 2023. Arrow McLaren and Chip Ganassi Racing are the only teams to earn spots in the Firestone Fast Six in each of the opening five rounds. Lundgaard hopes to win the race to end his mustache and bring his brother to the upcoming round on the Honda Indy Toronto. Previous winners Simon Pagenaud, Will Power, Rinus VeeKay, and Colton Herta will also be in the field. Championship leader Marcus Ericsson led the warmup.
