Brett Favre's Sworn Testimony in Mississippi Welfare Scandal

Retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre will testify under oath in a civil lawsuit regarding the misspending of federal welfare money in Mississippi. The funds, intended to help the state's poorest residents, were instead used to support pet projects favored by Favre and other well-connected individuals. Favre, along with more than three dozen defendants, is being sued by the current director of Mississippi's Department of Human Services to recover some of the misspent funds. While Favre denies any wrongdoing and has sued the state auditor for defamation, he will be giving sworn testimony on October 26. The scandal involved $77 million in federal welfare funds from 2016 to 2019, with only a fraction going towards direct aid for families in need.
