Germany pledges $1.4 billion for global Holocaust survivor support.

Germany has agreed to extend $1.4 billion in compensation for Holocaust survivors globally in 2024, negotiated with the Claims Conference. The compensation includes $888.9 million for home care and supportive services for frail and vulnerable survivors, and $175 million for symbolic payments of the Hardship Fund Supplemental program. The survivors receiving these payments largely are Russian Jews who weren’t in camps or ghettos and aren’t eligible for pension programs. The German government has paid more than $90 billion to individuals for suffering and losses resulting from persecution by the Nazis since 1952.
