Tragic Death of Teen Cheerleader at Camp Shocks Community

A 16-year-old cheerleader, Callie Mitchell, died after "probably" going into cardiac arrest at a cheer camp at Texas A&M. Mitchell had long QT syndrome, a conduction disorder that impairs the electrical system controlling the heartbeat. Her father is urging parents to get electrocardiograms (EKGs) for their children, as they are not part of regular physicals in Texas. Mitchell was described as a vibrant and compassionate young woman who had a passion for cheerleading and a strong faith.
