Multiple Canoeing Tragedies Strike Western Massachusetts

The body of a 20-year-old canoeist who fell into Pequot Pond in Westfield a week ago has been recovered by a private citizen using sonar. The victim was located just 50 yards from where his canoe capsized. The four-day search was conducted by local, regional, and state agencies, including the Westfield Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police, and the Western Massachusetts Regional Dive Team. Crews continue their search for a missing boater at Hampton Ponds in Westfield.
