Vigils were held nationwide for Nex Benedict, a nonbinary teenager who died following a school fight in Oklahoma. The 16-year-old, who identified as nonbinary, got into an altercation with three girls in a high school bathroom and later died at home. While a police warrant initially suggested a felony murder investigation, preliminary autopsy results indicate that Benedict's death was not a result of injuries suffered in the fight. The vigils, organized by LGBTQ+ groups, aimed to protest against the frequent bullying suffered by nonbinary teens and to call for action against discrimination and bullying in schools.
