Phoenix Takes Action to Clear Homeless Encampment 'The Zone'

The City of Phoenix has started the first phase of cleaning up 'The Zone', the state's largest homeless encampment near downtown Phoenix. The city is going block by block to clean up the area and offer safe indoor spaces to the homeless. The first block being focused on is 9th Avenue from Jefferson to Washington. The city plans to clean another block in two weeks and continue the process until 'The Zone' is cleared. There are concerns that some of the homeless people living in 'The Zone' don't want to move to a shelter and would rather live on the street in another part of town.
