"Outcry and Investigation Follow Tragic Death of Nonbinary Teen in Oklahoma School Bathroom Fight"

A vigil was held at an Oklahoma church for Nex Benedict, a nonbinary teenager who died following a school bathroom fight. The 16-year-old, who used they/them pronouns, was involved in a fight at Owasso High School and died the next day. The vigil was organized by the LGBTQ+ group, the McAlester Rainbow Connection, and was one of many scheduled nationwide. The police have stated that Benedict's death was not a result of injuries suffered in the fight, pending toxicology and other autopsy results. Vigils are planned in various Oklahoma cities and other states to honor Benedict's memory.
