Los Angeles Struggles to Reduce Number of RV Dwellers on Streets.

More than 11,000 people are living in RVs across Los Angeles County, with the number rising due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Some RV dwellers have jobs but either don’t want to pay apartment rent, or can’t afford to pay it, in a city where the average one-bedroom apartment costs around $2,500 a month. City officials have approved a plan to deal with the RVs that includes concerted outreach to those living in them, incentivizing them to move into motel rooms, creating safe parking areas that can accommodate RVs, and finding permanent housing for those living in RVs. However, the fundamental challenge remains the need for more affordable and safe housing.
