He faces charges alongside former President Trump for his involvement in an alleged fake elector scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. Shafer is accused of impersonating a public officer, forgery, false statements, and attempting to file false documents. He was one of 16 individuals who signed documents purporting to be Georgia's presidential electors despite President Biden winning the election. Shafer is among three co-defendants seeking to move their cases to federal court.
