Special counsel David Weiss, the U.S. attorney for Delaware leading the investigation into Hunter Biden, testified before the House Judiciary Committee that he had full authority to pursue criminal charges against Hunter Biden and was not blocked by anyone at the Department of Justice. Republican-led congressional investigations are probing whether senior officials, including Weiss, obstructed or disrupted the investigations into Hunter Biden. IRS whistleblowers alleged preferential treatment and intentional slow-walking in the federal investigation. Weiss refuted these claims and said he requested special counsel status, which was granted in August 2023. House Democrats dismissed the closed-door testimony as a "farce."
