Spanberger sworn in as Virginia's first female governor, marking a historic milestone

Democrat Abigail Spanberger was sworn in as Virginia's 75th governor, becoming the state's first woman to hold the post, after defeating Republican Winsome Earle-Sears. The ceremony also installed Ghazala Hashmi as lieutenant governor and Jay Jones as attorney general. Democrats expanded their control by picking up 13 seats in the House of Delegates and plan to redraw the state’s congressional map ahead of midterm elections, while Spanberger pledged to protect Virginia's economy and health care system from federal disruption and lead a new era in state government.
