Sheila Jackson Lee Enters Houston Mayoral Race

U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee has announced her candidacy for the Houston mayoral race, joining a crowded field that includes state Sen. John Whitmire, former Harris County clerk Chris Hollins, Houston City Council member Robert Gallegos, former chairman of the city's Metropolitan Transit Authority Gilbert Garcia, and former City Council member Amanda Edwards. The election is in November, and the seat is open because incumbent Sylvester Turner is term-limited. Jackson Lee has been in Congress since 1995 and would not have to give up her congressional seat to run for mayor.
