Sheila Jackson Lee Enters Houston Mayoral Race

U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee has announced her candidacy for Houston mayor, becoming a front-runner in the crowded race. The field now includes seven Democrats, including state Sen. John Whitmire, former Harris County Clerk Chris Hollins, former City Councilmember Amanda Edwards, attorney Lee Kaplan, Councilmember Robert Gallegos, and former Metro Chair Gilbert Garcia. Jackson Lee's long tenure in the House and visible role put her at an advantage, according to political analysts. The municipal election is on November 7.
