SC Comptroller General to Resign Following $3.5B Accounting Error

South Carolina Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom has resigned after being found responsible for a $3.5 billion accounting error and facing potential removal from office. Eckstrom, who held the role for 20 years, was accused of "willful neglect of duty" by a Senate panel investigating the error. The error was not realized for several years until a junior staffer fixed it last fall. The State Senate was set to vote on a measure to oust Eckstrom from the elected position on April 11.
