"Right-wing Operatives Settle for $1.25M Over Misleading 2020 Robocalls"

Far-right operatives Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman have agreed to pay up to $1.2 million to settle a lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James over a robocall campaign aimed at suppressing the Black vote ahead of the 2020 election. The campaign involved more than 5,000 robocalls filled with misinformation about voting in New York, falsely claiming that voting by mail would result in personal information being used by the police, credit card companies, and the CDC. The settlement, which still needs judicial approval, includes a $1 million damages payment that can be reduced to $393,000 if payment deadlines are met, or increased to $1.25 million if missed. Wohl and Burkman had previously been fined by the FCC and pleaded guilty to related charges in Ohio.
