Rhode Island Councilman Resigns After Drug Arrest and Controversial Text Messages Surface

Cranston City Councilman Matthew Reilly has resigned after being arrested for possession of crack cocaine. Reilly was found unconscious in his car by an officer who later found a "white, rock-like substance" in the center console of his vehicle, which tested positive for crack cocaine and fentanyl. Mayor Ken Hopkins announced a special election will be held to fill the opening on the city council. Reilly had also resigned as the city's GOP chair on Tuesday.
