Republicans Propose Plan to Make Jordan House Speaker, Despite Potential Punishments

Seven of the eight Republicans who voted to oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House have offered to accept punishment if it means convincing the holdouts to vote for Rep. Jim Jordan. The group, led by Rep. Matt Gaetz, has supported and voted for Jordan in three Speaker votes this week, while Rep. Ken Buck has voted for Majority Whip Tom Emmer. Jordan has lost support in each successive vote, with 25 Republicans voting against him in the latest vote. The group of Republicans who ousted McCarthy believes that the Republican Party and Congress need to change, but they are willing to face consequences individually if it helps elect Jordan as Speaker.
