Rep. George Santos Faces Federal Charges, Court Appearance Imminent

Republican Rep. George Santos of New York is set to appear in court after being hit with additional charges accusing him of stealing campaign donors' identities and making unauthorized charges on their credit cards. The Justice Department and Santos expect a trial date to be set for May or June 2024, and Santos plans to plead not guilty. Prosecutors are also seeking to modify his pretrial release conditions. Santos' former campaign treasurer has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States. Some Republican colleagues are seeking to expel Santos from Congress, following failed attempts by Democrats earlier this year.
