Former U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer has announced his candidacy for the Republican Party's nomination in Michigan's open U.S. Senate race. Meijer, an Iraq War veteran and grandson of the founder of the Meijer supermarket chain, lost his bid for reelection in 2022 after facing backlash from Republicans for voting to impeach former President Donald Trump. He joins a crowded GOP primary field that includes former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers and former Detroit police Chief James Craig. On the Democratic side, three-term U.S. Rep.
