Oath Keepers founder seeks leniency in Jan. 6 sentence.

Lawyers for Stewart Rhodes, the Oath Keepers founder convicted of seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, are urging the judge to sentence him to the time behind bars he has already served, while the Justice Department is seeking 25 years in prison. Rhodes' attorneys argued that all of his writings and statements were "protected political speech" and that he did not incite or encourage imminent violent or unlawful acts. Prosecutors described the Oath Keepers' actions as "terrorism" and said a harsh sentence is critical to deter future political violence.
