The revocation could slow down the city's response to the ongoing migrant crisis, which has seen over 140,000 asylum seekers arrive in New York City since spring 2022. Adams has expressed concerns that this could hinder migrants' access to food and shelter, as the city plans to spend $12 billion in tax dollars to house them. The comptroller's office is revising its prior approval process for such contracts.
