North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood to Resign Amid Indictment and New Charges

North Carolina State Auditor Beth Wood has announced her resignation, effective December 15, following her recent indictment on charges of misusing her state-owned vehicle for personal activities. Wood, a Democrat who has served as auditor since 2008, had already stated that she would not seek reelection in 2024. The indictment came after an eight-month investigation and follows her guilty plea in March for misdemeanor hit-and-run involving a car crash. Governor Roy Cooper will appoint someone to fill the remainder of Wood's term, with several candidates already running for the position.
