New Chief Judge to Oversee Trump Probes in Washington

Beryl Howell has handed off her position as chief judge of the federal district court to a colleague after seven years. Howell's secret work presiding over grand juries that could lead to charges against former President Donald Trump has brought her a cult following on social media. Her colleagues toasted and occasionally roasted her, and made clear they were as tantalized as the rest of the political world by Howell’s secret work. Judge James Boasberg replaced Howell as chief judge, and no major shift in the direction of the court or those probes is expected as a result of the change.
