Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed two laws that expand state control over Jackson's law enforcement and judicial system. One law expands the state-controlled Capitol Police jurisdiction to almost the entire city, while the other establishes a new court system within a state-created district. Critics argue that the measures put mostly White, conservative state officials in control of a majority-Black and Democratic city.
