Michigan City Permanently Bans Pride Flags on Public Property During Pride Month

The city council of Hamtramck, Michigan, has voted unanimously to permanently ban the display of Pride flags on public property, along with other "religious, ethnic, racial, political, or sexual orientation group flags." The resolution was brought by council member Mohammed Hassan, who argued that the city should not provide special treatment to any group of people. The ban has been met with opposition from community members who argue that it is an attack on the LGBTQ+ community. The only additional flags that will be allowed are those that represent the city's immigrant heritage.
