House Democrats attempted to strike Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's words from the record during a Homeland Security Committee hearing after she brought up allegations of Rep. Eric Swalwell's past relationship with a Chinese spy. Rep. Dan Goldman requested that Greene's comments be stricken from the record, but the motion was eventually tabled. Greene was later barred from speaking for violating rules against impugning a person's character. Swalwell's ties to the Chinese spy were first reported in 2020 and prompted House Republicans to draft a resolution to remove him from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, but the resolution was tabled by the Democrats.
