Juneteenth Celebrations Canceled and Postponed Across the US.

Juneteenth New Jersey cancelled a large celebration scheduled for Sunday in Branch Brook Park in Newark after being hit with large fees and a short deadline to pay them. The group said it was given 10 days to pay the county $35,000 for a park fee and for security for the event. After the group was unable to pay by the deadline of 12 p.m. on Wednesday, the celebration was cancelled. County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. defended the actions of county and said the organizers “have been publicizing this event without ever having been awarded a permit by Essex County.”
