Governors take action on gun safety in North Carolina and California.

Governor Roy Cooper has launched a new initiative called NC Safe to raise awareness about gun safety and secure firearms effectively in response to the increasing number of deaths caused by firearm injury and thefts. According to the N.C. Child Fatality Task Force, deaths from firearm-related injuries increased 231% from 2012 to 2021 among children and youths in the state, making guns the leading cause of injury-related death within this population in North Carolina.
