Family Members Identified as George Santos' Bail Bond Backers

Rep. George Santos' father and aunt were revealed as the individuals who guaranteed his $500,000 bail bond, despite his efforts to keep their identities private. Santos pleaded not guilty in May to 13 federal counts of wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and other charges. His lawyer argued that publicly identifying the sureties would subject them to harassment and intimidation. However, a magistrate judge ruled that their identities should be made public after a group of news organizations requested their release.
