Emergency Orders Issued Across New York State in Response to Migrant Crisis

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone issued an emergency order requiring hotels, motels, and shelters to obtain permission from the county before contracting with other municipalities to house asylum seekers. The county is facing a shortage of housing options for both asylum seekers and its own homeless population. This comes as New York City seeks help from other municipalities to cope with the influx of migrants.
