Disney and DeSantis Clash Over Special District Board Power

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has requested a state investigation into the former Reedy Creek Improvement District after learning that Disney had stripped his board of its power. The new board, renamed the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, had made a last-minute deal granting Disney power over the district’s development rights. DeSantis claims that the board’s actions suffer from serious legal infirmities, including conflicts of self-interest and self-dealing. He has requested that the Chief Inspector General investigate the Reedy Creek Improvement District and its adherence to state civil and criminal laws and ethics requirements.
