Attorneys for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have requested a trial involving Disney to be postponed until mid-2025, after the 2024 elections. The lawsuit stems from Disney's claim that its free speech rights were violated when DeSantis took over its governing district in retaliation for opposing the "Don't Say Gay" legislation. Disney proposed a trial date in July 2024, while DeSantis' attorneys suggested August 2025. Both sides also disagreed on the timing of a motion for summary judgment. DeSantis and his appointees have previously asked the judge to dismiss or put the lawsuit on hold.
