Christian nationalism climbs inside GOP strongholds, new PRRI survey shows

A PRRI 50-state survey finds about one-third of Americans identify as Christian nationalism adherents or sympathizers, with 56% of Republicans in that camp (vs. 25% of independents and 17% of Democrats). The highest shares appear in GOP-led states like Arkansas and Oklahoma, while blue states such as California, New York, and Washington report lower levels. Adherents tend to back strict immigration views and view Trump favorably. Nationally, Christian nationalism is a minority, but within the Republican ranks it is a majority-current tied to Trump and conservative policy debates. The poll surveyed 22,111 adults from Feb. 18 to Dec. 8, 2025, with a margin of error of ±0.87 percentage points.
