Campaign Finance Scam: Ex-Cop with Ties to Eric Adams Among Donors Charged

Six individuals, including a retired NYPD inspector with ties to Mayor Eric Adams, have been indicted for allegedly orchestrating a campaign finance scam to boost public matching funds for Adams' 2021 mayoral campaign. The defendants are accused of using straw donors to donate thousands of dollars in other people's names, which would then be matched by public money. While Adams is not named as a defendant, one defendant claimed to have been in communication with him. If convicted, the defendants could face up to four years in prison.
