"Biden Administration's Park Rehabilitation: Removal of William Penn Statue"

The National Park Service plans to remove a statue of William Penn from a Philadelphia park as part of a rehabilitation project aimed at providing a more inclusive experience for visitors, including expanded interpretation of Native American history. The proposal, developed in collaboration with Native American representatives, has sparked public feedback, with over 500 comments already submitted. Comments can be officially submitted to NPS from Jan. 8 through Jan. 21, and if the proposal moves forward, Welcome Park will retain aspects of its original design while adding new features like a planted buffer and gathering space.
