Atlanta City Council approves controversial funding for police training center.

Atlanta City Council has approved $67m in public funding for the $90m public safety training center, with a list of new requirements added to the deal in the last moments to address concerns raised by opponents. The amendments include limiting development to 85 acres and not encroaching on the 265 acres dedicated for public greenspace, and requiring de-escalation and anti-bias police training. The council’s vote clears the way for Atlanta to contribute a $31m one-time payment toward construction, plus annual $1.2m payments over 30 years.
