Passing of Former NPR President and U.S. Ambassador Delano Lewis at 84

Delano Lewis, the former president of National Public Radio (NPR) and U.S. ambassador to South Africa, has passed away at the age of 84. Lewis, the first Black person to hold the position of NPR president, had a distinguished career in politics, civil rights, and business. He played a significant role in advocating for public broadcasting funds and attempted to merge NPR with Public Radio International. After leaving NPR, Lewis served as the U.S. ambassador to South Africa from 1999 to 2001. His remarkable career in public service was praised by NPR's current CEO, John Lansing.
