Deep Sea Explorer Don Walsh, Pioneer of Ocean Exploration, Passes Away at 92

Don Walsh, a retired Navy captain and deep-sea explorer, has passed away at the age of 92. In 1960, Walsh and Swiss engineer Jacques Piccard became the first to reach the deepest part of the ocean, the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench. Descending to a depth of 35,800 feet, they spent 20 minutes on the seafloor, confirming the existence of marine life. Walsh's pioneering spirit and contributions to oceanography will be remembered.
