102-Year-Old WWII Vet Passes Away En Route to D-Day Ceremony

Robert Persichitti, a 102-year-old WWII Navy veteran from New York, died while traveling to France to attend a D-Day anniversary ceremony. Despite his age, he was active and in good health, having received medical clearance for the trip. Persichitti had a distinguished life, serving in the Navy during key battles and later working as a shop teacher. He was an active member of Honor Flight Rochester and authored an autobiography. He passed away peacefully after a medical episode on the ship, surrounded by people and listening to his favorite Frank Sinatra music.
